I'm writing a short story titled "Fading Light from a Dying Star."
I need to figure out the space drive systems. I want there to be two different ones.
The basic set would be for short distance. Thrusters, if you will.
I'm trying to figure out what the best long distance method would be. Wormholes is overdone. I'm thinking about hyperspace/fold system, but I'd rather do something more inventive. Any ideas?

An idea might be that whatever sort of drive you have the guys that know the math involved would be a class unto themselves and revered in the culture. They could hold a great deal of power because they control interstellar transportation. There may be a lot of bad feelings among the crew toward them, or they might be worshipped.
Just a few ideas. :-)
