Grimalkin Fortunato is now my favorite character. He's funny, which is odd because as a whole I dislike cats.
Dylan stepped closer to the cat and hoped that he could heard him through the bubble. “Mr. Fortunato, we need to know about the Bone Tower. Why is the Queen of Cats held there?”
Grimalkin shook vigorously, attempting to dry his fur from the frog mucus. His voice was smooth, care-free. “Who wishes to know?”
“I’m Dylan Foley. These are the Lost Boys. We want to save the Queen of Cats.”
“Dylan Foley, you say? Come closer so I can see you.”
Triton held up a powerful claw, blocking Dylan. “That is close enough.”
Grimalkin purred. “Why does a Lost Boy want to save Mafdet, the Queen of Cats? Curious and curiouser.”
“Red-Handed Jack is back. He’s after Pan’s Treasure,” Dylan said.
“Why not simply find Trouble? You should be able to find Trouble quite easily, Dylan Foley,” Grimalkin said. “Why bother with the Queen?”
Dylan shrugged his shoulders. “Trouble hasn’t been seen in years as far as I can tell.”
Pip took a step closer to join the conversation. “He left the Dreamlands ages ago.”
The cat licked his paws casually. “And now, you must save the Queen to stop a threat to all of the Dreamlands.”
Triton grunted. “Hardly a threat to the entire Dreamlands.”
The cat grinned and flicked the very end of his tail. “Of course, such matters are for the future, and a condemned cat can hardly be bothered with the future.”
Triton sniffed derisively. “Don’t listen to him. It is but a cat trick.”
“It matters not for tomorrow I die,” Grimalkin said dramatically. “But perhaps we will meet on the other side after you face Talbot.”
