I stayed up way too late writing last night. I feel drained, but in a good way.

Here's another raw unedited WIP.

Skald ordered two of the Alfar to loosen the rigging of the Tempest to encourage maneuverability over speed. Cannons were less than accurate from a distance and the quicker that the Tempest could turn would benefit them. Travis rang the bell twice. “Load the cannons!”

Skald repeated Dylan’s order to the rest of the crew with a great deal of volume, cussing, and flare. Dylan paused amongst the chaos and blinked. Some of the words, he had never even imagined could go together. “Impressive vocabulary!”

Travis wagged his finger at his son. “Don’t you think about picking that habit up. Your mother would kill us both.”

“The pirates might do that.”

“I’d rather fight the pirates than your mother.” Travis bumped shoulders with his son, trying to get him to smile. “It’s a good plan, son. Should have thought about it ages ago.”

“Yeah, but I’m just a kid. I'm not used to people actually listening to me.”

“And this is a story. Sometimes you need kid logic to get through this sort of thing. You’ll be aces! If there was a problem, I’d have said something.”

Dylan shook his head, mock disappointed. “No, you’re supposed to say that it’s just crazy enough to work. That’s how it works in the Ty Conrad movies.”
“You're starting to talk like them. The Lost Boys, I mean.”

“Being here brings back memories. Almost makes me feel like a kid again. But don’t worry, I’ll still be bugging you about your homework.”

“Speaking of which...”

“Yeah, you’re totally grounded when we get back. Saving the world is no excuse for not telling me where you’re going.”

“I figured, but just wanted to check.” Dylan thought of his mother. “Think we’ll ever see her again?”

“Sure. Maybe I don’t know the when or the where, but we’ll see her.”
“Will we see her here? In the dreamlands?”

“They say that you can go anywhere on the dreamsea, even the sunless lands. But if we don’t get a move on, we’ll meet her sooner than either one of us expects.”

"Skald ordered two of the Alfar to loosen the rigging of the Tempest to encourage maneuverability over speed."

I'm not sure about ships, but I do a lot of sailing on smaller boats and that doesn't sound right to me?

That could be completely right. On the edit/first pass, I'm going to go over all of the ship parts with my handy little book about shipping.

In my vomitt draft, I try to get the characters and plot there and worry about the rest later.

Okay! As long as you're checking that stuff later on. Maybe get someone who knows a lot more about sailing to have a look at it.

Just a heads up, the faster you're going, the more maneuverable a boat is, so you won't have one or the other.
