Harlan Ellison rocks! I watched a show on him once. My memory is foggy but as I recall he went to a bookstore and took random ideas from the crowd and typed a short story on the spot in like an hour for them. He taped the original (and only copy) of the story to the store window and then sold it for big bucks. Apparently it was like a writing exercise with a payoff. That is just cool.
