I’m working on my fourth Phoenix Chronicles short story titled “Three Minutes” for the anthology Sporty Spec. This is about an illegal boxing match that the crew gets involved in.

I have a couple other ideas for these characters. I might eventually write a novel for them.

My third story was titled “Slugs on a Space Transport” but that was renamed to “The Mathematics of Hunger” and has been purchased. I haven’t gotten the contract yet, so I’m holding off on announcing where it is going.

So far, I’ve been very lucky as all of the Phoenix Chronicles have been placed.

The next anthology for Simian Publishing, Twilight Temptations, will be opening on July 1st 2007. See www.simianpublishing.com for details.

Have you found a mate for Gemini yet? I was thinking you could always write it. Save some money in cost and make more in royalty.

That kind of kills the reputation of a small press.

I'll find one. Sooner or later. I have six months.

Really? So you can't publish your own stuff at all? What about in an anthology?

Nope. Reputation wise that sinks a small press.

And I'm managing to place enough stories that it is better for me to send them elsewhere.

You are welcome to keep that ISBN you offered me since anything I would use it for would be self publishing since my name is on everything you've published so far.

Oddly for graphic novels/comic books it is ok to self-publish.

I suppose if you were publishing your own novels it could be seen as padding your own nest. Having a story in a book that has 15 other stories seems fine to my way of thinking. Of course if image is important, you got to go with the mob, even if it is stupid.

I almost did that in my first anthology, but now I'm really happy that I didn't. Not only because I don't trust that story any more, but also because the first reviewer praised it for not including my own story. (http://www.amazon.com/Teddy-Bear-Cannibal-Massacre-Lieder/dp/0976654601/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3/105-0747951-5376450?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1181670349&sr=8-3)

Pretty much any self-publishing is going to tarnish the reputation of the writer or publisher.
