Neil Gaiman had some thoughts about vampires.

I have an outline, an awesome concept, and a title for a vampire novel. It is resting in my Novel Seed folder.

I'll look at it again in five years when the cultural wheel has turned once more. Writers should write what excites them and when they can tell a story from a fresh point of view. The audience can get drowned in an idea to the put where everything becomes white noise.

I learned that lesson by writing Dylan and the Dream Pirates in the middle of the YA Fantasy craze.

In other news, I started writing opening scenes and very much enjoying them. The one that surprised me the most was for an untitled science fiction idea. At the end of the week, I'll post my favorites here.
