A number of writers have been writing about their YA Character Crushes . I decided I would try to so the same, only obviously, I'd pick girls. These are characters that I wish I had created.

5. Lyra Belacqua from His Dark Materials

I think Pullman really captured what it is like to be an orphan. I love Lyra's scenes with Mrs. Coulter. She's strong and smart, and really wants to see Polar Bears. Who can blame her?

4. Tally Youngblood from the Uglies Series

Tally is selfish, rude, curious, and thinks she knows everything. A perfect teenager. I really enjoyed this series as a whole. It was interesting watching Tally fight her programming and evolution to see people as just people.

3. Meggie Folchar from InkHeart

Meggie is pure awesome. If you love books, and I am the smell, the feel, just having them, you should read InkHeart. Maggie is the daughter of a book binder that has the magical ability to pull characters from books into the real world. She has a wry sense of humor and uses the gifts she has to make a difference. And in the end, when she discovers she has the same talent as her father, she chooses instead to write her down stories.

2. Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter

Loony Luna is an outcast. She is picked on. And still she is happy. She enjoys life and makes the best of things. A lot of people accuse J.K Rowling of writing Hermione as a Mary-Sue, but I think she catches a lot of sadness in this character. The scene in Luna's bedroom with the friends montage always makes me tear up. In a manly way of course.

1. Hermione from Harry Potter

Hermione kicks ass in the Harry Potter books. She's smart, funny, and good at magic. And yet, still loses her temper and has a bit of the dark side. Yeah, I noticed she tried to have Umbridge with the Centaurs. She's one bad-ass bitch when she gets angry.

There is a word to describe a city or a village built onto the side of a cliff or mountain and I can't remember it.

It might drive me insane.

Anyone know what I am talking about?

It actually helps my thinking process to write about what I am writing about. Silly I know.

Editing / Rewriting has progressed nicely.

This far, I have completed the first editing pass over the nine chapters.

CHAPTER ONE: THE PROBLEMS WITH PIRATES
CHAPTER TWO: THE LOST BOYS
CHAPTER THREE: THE THIN SPOT BETWEEN WORLDS
CHAPTER FOUR: THE LADY OF THE TEMPEST
CHAPTER FIVE: THE SECRET OF GRIMALKIN FORTUNATO
CHAPTER SIX: MUTINY ON THE TEMPEST
CHAPTER SEVEN: WORTHY
CHAPTER EIGHT: THE TOWER OF BONE
CHAPTER NINE: THE QUEEN OF CATS

I need to continue editing the following

CHAPTER TEN: OUROBOROS
CHAPTER ELEVEN: REQUIEM IN THE HOUSE OF LOGOS
CHAPTER TWELVE: TALL SAILS, TALLER TALES
CHAPTER THIRTEEN: ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS NEVER ASKED
CHAPTER FOURTEEN: SHOOTING FLAMINGOS

I need to completely rewrite the following:

CHAPTER FIFTEEN: DEVIL MAY CARE
CHAPTER SIXTEEN: THE RIDERS OF THE STORM
CHAPTER SEVENTEEN: SECOND STAR TO THE RIGHT

Random Thoughts

The topic of fan fiction came up this afternoon with a writer friend and how it can benefit the sales of a writer.

She asked me hypothetically if I would ever approve of Dylan and the Dream Pirates fan fiction provided it was picked up by a publisher.

Cut provided so that my wife doesn’t kill me.

Today was the last day of my Amazon contract.

It was a decent job, but that gravy train is now over. I have sent out my resumes and lined up interviews as they gave me some warning. And the manager is pimping my resume to other departments.

I have already started my unemployment claim.

I've decided that I am going to really take advantage of my time off this time and try to live the freelance writer life.

I have a couple of assignments lined up. My goal is to finish Dylan and the Dream Pirates by the end of the month. I am going to split my days between those assignments and novel writing.

I had to do a quick line edit to remove 200 words from a sale before they go to print tomorrow.

When I get back, I have another requested rewrite for an essay/review.
