The Doom That Fell Upon the Villa Diodati
Jun. 16th, 2009 03:33 pmThe muse is a fickle bitch.
I'm supposed to be editing Dylan and the Dream Pirates so I can start submitting it to editors and agents.
Alas, a small part of my brain wants to play and keeps making connections.
I've been working on a seed for my next novel. This is an adult themed novel. I figure since I am taking a break that I'd leave a note here.
The working title is the Doom That Fell Upon the Villa Diodati.
This historical piece is set in 1816 during the infamous Year with a Summer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Year_Without_a_Summer
The Villa Diodati is famous for being the location where Frankenstein was written by Mary Shelly during a strange summer with Lord Byron, Percy Shelly, and other notables.
Of course, there will be otherworldly events mixed in such as Faeries, Old Ones, and a heaping dose of erotica. I think of it as erotic SteamPunk Noir.
And while I am going to strive to be historically accurate in general, this is clearly an alterate world where things are a little different.
I've become facinated with John Edward. I'm trying to find a copy of his tall-tale autobiography. You can read about him here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_John_Trelawny
