I gave it quite a bit of thought and I’ve decided to make two major changes to Abigail’s Dragon. First, I moved the dream from the beginning of the chapter to the end of the chapter. I think it works much better there and it avoids the problem of a dream sequence in the opening pages. I think the dream works better when you have more of a feel for Abigail. And I think it avoids people pre-judging the book for having the dream in the opening pages.

The hardest change was the title. I think Abigail’s Dragon doesn’t quite grab attention. I think the quick turnaround time in my rejected queries might have something to do with the weak title. I’ve decided to change the title to Dragon’s Heir. And then it will match the sequel Dragon’s Nightmare.

Of course, the agent that had me excited with possibilities has told me that she can’t take on any new clients. She did say it wasn’t anything to do with the book, but her business. So, the queries shall be off yet again. She was the first pro that gave me hope so I can’t be too disappointed.

I have tomorrow off so I will be trying to finish Chapter Two of Dylan and the Dream Pirates and editing the first three chapters of Dragon’s Heir to pick up the pace just a bit. The pacing for the rest of the novel seems good based on feedback.

I’ve already cleared Chapter One. Chapter Two is the one that will be the hardest to cut. I’ll have to insert some of that information later if I cut too much.
