Random Thoughts About Life

In many ways, Dreams in the Dragon's House is about an idealized version of family. There is a mother, a father, and siblings. Something I very much aspire to in the future.

Dylan and the Dream Pirates is also about an idealized version of family that has gone through a terrible time. Dylan's mother has died of cancer. His father Travis does his best to raise his son. In many ways, it is an wishful what-if my life had been a little bit different. What if my Mom had died early and not my father.

My Dad died when I was around five. I never really got to know him. I only have a couple of memories about him. My mother couldn't raise me. She had drug problems and other crazy elements that led her to a lot of wandering. I was raised by my grandparents, who are now dead.

I recently got in touch with a cousin of my father's. Her name is Nancy and she appearantly knew him very well. He wanted to be a writer. Something I had no idea about. She's going to send me some of his stuff. Makes me wonder if it is gentic.

I've learned a lot about myself while writing this novel. I think it has helped me take very good steps.

I've very glad that my wife has encouraged me. I wouldn't have picked up writing again if she hadn't have encouraged me.

fodder for your novel: come to the DeBusk family reunion in Santa Clara and meet Nancy :)

OK, I tried tracking you down and then sending a message and then had to sign up for this journal and then retype my message to hopefully get it to you at last!!!! It's about time we meet--I'm not getting any younger (do the math 1951)--and you'll have a chance to meet random cousins of your dad and next generation cousins July 4-5 in Santa Clara. I know you'll get some fodder for the Dylan and the dream pirates novel. Plus, I want to be with family members who like to read, write, and hope for change, like Barack! Hope to meet you and your family. Janice has details and I have more, as well, if you want to contact me at ncary@sdccd.edu--try that one first since I can navigate my work email :)-- or this email contact if the journal gives mine to you. I'm new at this and haven't even made my profile page yet. Will read up on it later today. Best wishes to you and your family. Nancy
