AgentQuest, Part I

I did a decent search for potential agents over the last two days and ended up finding a total of five interesting possibilities. It was a lot more difficult as urban fantasy seems to be a dirty work.

Two of them I had to discount because they only take clients refered to them by their current clients. I know a couple of them, but it feels awkward to ask people you vaguely know to take their time away from their projects to help you. This is why I am a bad networker.

I submitted a query to one of the agents this morning.

I'm reviewing the guidelines of the remaining two. More to come.

I'm a bad networjer, too...

A friend of mine tried to introduce me to her agent at the Nebulas, and the agent acted like I had crept out from under a rock. That's why I hate putting myself forward...

(I don't think it was personal, BTW. I think the agent just didn't want to meet any newbie who had a book. My friend tried to get me to tell the agent about the book, but I could tell the woman did NOT want to hear about it...)

I don't mind pitching to agents. I just feel weird when they only accept pitches from writers that have been recommended by current clients.
