DREAMS IN A DRAGON'S HOUSE feedback

I finally recieved feedback on my DREAMS IN A DRAGON'S HOUSE query.

I'm told at 73,000 words, it is a bit long for standard YA. By adding 7,000 words, DREAMS IN A DRAGON'S HOUSE could be marketed as urban fantasy. That is something to seriously consider. I think I know of two scenes that could be extended to make it to that point, but I was worried about going over the word count for YA.

I obviously have a little more work to do on this.

First Reader Manuscript Exchange

I am curious if anyone in LJ land would be interested in forming a First Reader Manuscript Exchange.

I figure we could exchange manuscripts and give each other feedback. I'm good at giving and receiving feedback.

We could set up a yahoogroups if we had a enough people interested.

I'm thinking that maybe I need a writer's group. Or that my novel isn't as good as I think it is.

Dylan and the Dream Pirates Update

I wrote 6,000 words today on Dylan and the Dream Pirates. I'm feeling a little burned out now. :)

Fast Paced Writing

I've discovered two things about my writing.

Scene descriptions are a speed bump for me. I like to take my time and imagine what a setting looks like. Sometimes I do a sketch. It can distract me from the story.

I've decided to try leaving notes on those sections and skipping ahead with the action and the dialog. It worked like a charm. And then I added two characters that I hadn't expected. Grimalkin Fortunato and Olaf Gudrødsson of the Alfar.
