I was watching the country music channel and there was a song about a man being proud that he died for his country and made it to Arlington National Cemetary. That got me thinking of a story seed for you.
A soldier from the Iraq War is buried there and his ghost encounters the ghosts of the soldiers of all the other wars that have been buried there and he has to come to grips with the honor of it all as well as the responsibility. You could go straight with it and they have become the spirit of honor of the country or something or go horror with it and they are a new army to fight some spiritual war. Several ending ideas. You could look at what each war's generation considers of honor and duty and death. Do the ones from wars lost or the Indian wars feel the same as the WWII vets?
A new idea
